Vista Colina Clinic Coordinator

Vista Colina is an Emergency Family Shelter. Homeless families reside in apartments for a period of approximately 90-120 days. As clinic coordinators, we organize Monday evening medical clinics and are responsible for contacting volunteers, recruiting preceptors, and transporting supplies from campus. Our patient population consists of both adults and children, and we often will see the same patient multiple times during their stay at the shelter giving us an opportunity to build rapport and follow-up on their care. In addition to directly serving the community, HOME clinics provide an inter-professional environment for students from the Midwestern DO, PA, OT, Dental and Pharmacy programs to practice their clinical skills.

CASS Clinic Coordinator

The role of the Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS) Coordinator is to lead an interdisciplinary group of Midwestern University students to provide a free healthcare clinic for the homeless population residing at CASS. Coordinators of that specific week will meet prior to clinic and organize all necessary equipment to bring to the homeless shelter. Then, the coordinators will meet students on campus to give a debriefing on the clinic schedule for that night including disciplines involved, student groups, and pertinent safety measures. Once all students arrive at CASS, another debriefing will be led by the CASS Coordinators. Coordinators at CASS oversee and organize the night ensuring that students see patients in a timely manner, present to their attendings, and treat patients accordingly. Any questions or concerns that students or attendings may have should be directed to the CASS Coordinators.

IT Coordinator

IT Coordinators are responsible for the HOME website as well as managing the scheduling software and troubleshooting any issues others may have with the technology used in clinic. IT coordinators work closely with both Dr. Devine and Dr. Mifflin to build, maintain, and update information on the HOME web page and the scheduling software. The HOME Clinic laptops and electronic medical record system is also a major project IT is working to coordinate.

Health Education Coordinator

Education Coordinators work with students across various disciplines to educate the community and promote the mission of the H.O.M.E. organization and Midwestern University as a whole. Education Coordinators are dedicated to providing free health presentations to underserved populations in the Greater Phoenix Area. They primarily focus on the creation and maintenance of workshops in order to educate communities of various important topics such as diabetes, mental health, sun protection, diet, and exercise. The goal is to raise awareness for healthy habits and behaviors to improve the quality of life for populations that do not always have access to healthcare. The presentation topics are created on an as need basis, and are often in conjunction with other clubs on campus as well as the Community Outreach Coordinator.

Supply Coordinator

Supply Coordinators are responsible for organizing the HOME Closet as well as restocking supplies to take to clinic to ensure adequate materials are available for every clinic. Supply Coordinators also submit purchase requests for additional supplies as necessary. Lastly, Supply Coordinators receive, inventory, and manage donations from local benefactors to be distributed to the homeless at HOME clinics and events.
